Working for the Weekend

I really think that it’s accurate to say that I’m always ‘working for the weekend.’ I’ve got a pretty stressful job that can really take its toll on my sanity sometimes so I get really excited about every weekend. I get even more excited now that I’ve purchased a boat that I’m able to take out on the water.

After I got off work this most recent Friday, I only made a couple of stops. I stopped off for some coffee at Starbucks. Then, I picked up a bottle of Evinrude XD 100 oil for my boat on my way home. Once I got home, I hitched my boat to my truck and got ready for a great weekend.

Boating in Kansas

When you think Kansas, you’re probably not thinking of beaches or boating at all. But you’d be surprised that there actually are a few places for Kansans and people visiting Kansas can go to swim, hang out on the beach, and even roam around in a boat. The bigger ones are in the Kansas City area, bordering Missouri, such as Blue Springs Lake and Longview Lake.

But there are also places actually within the borders of Kansas like Shawnee Mission Park Beach and Kill Creek Park Beach. Regardless of where you choose, it’s nice to know that there are places even in the center of the United States where people can still find ways to boat. Just don’t forget to load up on Evinrude oil before you hit the lakes.

Fishing in the Sun

My dad wanted to get the family together this summer for a big boat blowout. All of us went out to the lake together to go fishing for steelhead. We had our tackle boxes full of bait, our lifejackets on tight, and we were ready to head out to enjoy the warm sun out on his new boat. It was going to be quite an adventure!

When we got out there, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for boating escapades. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, so it was a mighty good thing we remembered to bring our sunscreen! Luckily for all of us, my dad had purchased Evinrude XD100 Oil for his Evinrude E-TEC motor and we didn’t waste any time getting out there to properly enjoy the day. It was a great day to make memories for the whole family.

Preparation Leads to Boating with Confidence

When you are out on the water, it is crucial that you have the gear you need. Life jackets and other essential safety equipment are required by law. The type of boating you are doing, and the environment you are in, will determine what gear you should bring along, and you should take every precaution before heading out on the water. You should know what to bring based on the size of your boat, purpose and length of the trip and the worst case conditions you might face. Experienced boaters will always tell you to keep your boat prepared for emergencies at all times.

This also includes maintaining your boats mechanical systems, and your engine is a critical component. You should be confident out on the water, knowing that you have done all you can to make sure your boat will get you there and back safely. Using the manufacturer’s specified oil, Evinrude XD50 oil for example, can help to ensure that your engine is running smoothly; and don’t forget to check your oil and fuel levels before every trip out on the water.

The Hamptons

On the other side of the U.S. is a little beach haven known as the Hamptons. (Obviously, “little beach haven” is an understatement). While celebrities may hide out in their gigantic beach mansions, there are plenty of affordable beach cottages average Joes like me can rent.

When I was in university a bunch of us would pool our money and rent a Hamptons beach cottage for a week. Yes, it could be a bit cramped at night, but we spent most of our days on the water, so it wasn’t too bad. We even rented a boat a few times and serviced the engine with Evinrude XD 50 oil.

Malibu Vacation

Back in the U.S. celebrities like to frequent Malibu. That’s not much of a surprise. I’ve visited Malibu a couple of times and the surfing is amazing.

Fishing, on the other hand, is better further away from the crowds. In fact, it’s better if you go deep sea fishing. I’ve done that a few times with a buddy of mine. I repaid him with a bottle of premium Evinrude XD 100 oil.

Croatian Coast

The next big summer hot spot, according to People magazine, is the Croatian coast. That one made me scratch my head. When I think of Croatia my mind doesn’t immediately go to tropical paradise.

Apparently, the historic city of Dubrovnik sits right on the Adriatic Sea and is quite beautiful and budget friendly. Grilled octopus, I read, is a specialty along the Croatian coast. With all the money I’ve saved by purchasing affordable Evinrude outboard oil over the years, maybe I’ll be able to afford a trip to such an off-beat destination.

Italian Coast

The Italian coast is considered another celebrity summer hot spot. Everyone from Tyra Banks to Ellen DeGeneres to Jessica Simpson likes to lounge in the Italian sun. Though I haven’t stayed in any ritzy palazzos, my wife and I did take our honeymoon in Venice, so I suppose that counts.

We scrimped and saved to go on that trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, and of course made full use of the water taxi and water bus system. Perhaps if I’d known more Italian I could have chatted with the captains about the virtues of using Evinrude oil.

Suzuki DT115S

Like the Evinrude E115, the Suzuki DT115S is light, compact and efficient. The 1.77-liter two-stroke engine has a digital multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection system and a six quart oil tank hidden under the engine cowling. (That means that when you add in your Evinrude XD50 oil you don’t have to worry about a messy separate oil tank).

Unfortunately, the Suzuki gets a thumb down for fuel consumption. It burns twice as much fuel as the Evinrude at a 3500-rpm cruise. Price-wise, the Suzuki is still a good bargain.

Yamaha F115

If the Honda BF115 we reviewed yesterday is out of your price range, then you may want to check out the Yamaha F115. It costs $1370 less than the Honda BF115, while having nearly identical stats. According to a test done by Popular Mechanics, the Yamaha F115 is a hairsbreadth slower on acceleration, one to two decibels noisier, and consumes the same amount of fuel.

The Yamaha differs from the Honda in that it weighs only 407 lbs. and is far more compact. The 1.74-liter four stroke engine has a computerized multiport fuel injection system and a separate throttle valve for each intake runner, thus differentiating itself from the 1.6-liter F100 it was modeled upon. Though Yamaha has its own line of oil, I still recommend that you check out Evinrude XD 100 oil.

Honda BF115

In order to stay compliant with EPA emissions guidelines, the top outboard motor manufacturers had to refine their two-stroke and four-stroke engines. The Honda BF115 is an example of a job well done. The four-stroke outboard was adapted from the 2.3-liter four-cylinder Accord sedan motor.

The BF115 runs quietly and is highly economical when it comes to fuel consumption, which can be attributed to its long-stroke design. A fat midrange torque curve makes towing water skis or inflatable tubes easy. The only drawback is that the motor weighs in at 496 lbs. which can be problematic for lighter crafts. It still gets a stamp of approval from me, provided you use the correct lubricant, Evinrude outboard oil.

Ready To Retire?

Overall, I think our extended vacation did us a world of good. I learned a lot about how I really like to spend my time. I also learned that I don’t want to retire any time soon – or at all.

I anticipate that I’ll always want some sort of work to keep me busy. Maybe instead of working a traditional 9-5 job indefinitely, I’ll take on some part time work. Who knows – maybe I’ll set up shop as an Evinrude oil salesman? That seems right up my alley.
