Italian Coast

The Italian coast is considered another celebrity summer hot spot. Everyone from Tyra Banks to Ellen DeGeneres to Jessica Simpson likes to lounge in the Italian sun. Though I haven’t stayed in any ritzy palazzos, my wife and I did take our honeymoon in Venice, so I suppose that counts.

We scrimped and saved to go on that trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, and of course made full use of the water taxi and water bus system. Perhaps if I’d known more Italian I could have chatted with the captains about the virtues of using Evinrude oil.

Bulk Motor Oil

While distracting myself from all the paperwork and financials I’ll need to get in order to start a business, I’ve been searching for deals on bulk outboard motor oil. If you know where to look, then you can get some truly incredible deals. Good prices are available not only on cheap lubricants but on quality bulk outboard motor oil.

When I do order bulk oil, I always make a point in asking about the type of container it will come in. You don’t want to wind up with a rusted container that will leak. Ideally you want a container that can hold up for several years in fluctuating temperatures.

Starting a Charter Fishing Boat Business

I’ve been an avid fisherman and boater for decades. I’m coming up on retirement soon, so I’ve been giving a great deal of thought about what I will do with my time. I feel young and heart; there’s no way I’m going to sit around the house all day.

I’ve been giving serious thought to starting a charter fishing boat business in my area. It makes a lot of sense. I already know the best areas to fish; I can do my own boat maintenance; and I know where to get deals on bulk Mercury OptiMax oil. I need to think this through a bit more before I discuss this business idea with my wife.

Thunder and Lightning

When I was a teenager I earned spending money by working as a lifeguard during the summer. It’s a pretty cushy job most of the time. Who doesn’t want to spend hot days right by the pool? Any time it got too warm, I just jumped in the water to cool off.

The only times we had to shut down the pool were for thunder and lightning. Since we didn’t want to get electrocuted our policy was to wait 30 minutes after the last thunder was heard or the last lightning was spotted before we’d let patrons back in the pool. I use that policy now whenever I go boating. I don’t want to get stranded on the water during a storm, so I use the time ashore to teach my kids about 2 stroke oil and other boating necessities.

Heat Wave

We experienced an extreme heat wave the week of the July 4th holiday. The heat index got over 105 degrees ten days in a row. Extreme temperature combined with the poor air quality that comes with living in a metropolitan area made going outside a hazard.

Normally I’d go to the lake to escape the heat, but it was too hot to be messing with any sort of smoke and gas fumes. This past weekend we had a series of thunderstorms that broke the heat wave. Now we have our normal 75 to 80 degree weather that is far more bearable. I’ll be heading to the lake just as soon as I replace the 2 cycle oil in my outboard engine.

Engineer Collaboration

Why do I use Yamalube oil? The answer is simple: it’s because I use a Yamaha engine. The Yamaha Motor Company is all about collaboration. The engineers who built the engine I use work with the oil engineers to ensure every formulation produces maximum performance.

Take the 2W watercraft two-stroke engine Yamalube oil, for instance. The exclusive semi-synthetic formula was specifically designed to protect against piston burning, rust, and corrosion, which are more likely to occur on the water. Low smoke emissions are an added bonus.

High End Semi-Synthetic Oil

This past week, I’ve dedicated quite a bit of blog space to synthetic oils. I’d like to close out the work week by telling you a bit more about my high end semi-synthetic oil of choice, Yamalube 2W. This marine oil is specifically approved for use in Yamaha sport boats and WaveRunners.

Though it is available in smaller sizes, I personally stock up on Yamalube 2W oil and buy it in 55-gallon drums. I would estimate that using the high end semi-synthetic oil has saved me thousands of dollars in engine parts. Yamalube 2W keeps the internal workings of the motor well lubricated, clean and cool.

ATV

This past weekend I got quite a shock. My teenage son, who just finished his first year of college, rode up to our lake house on an ATV. He’s an adult and he earns his own money working part time during the school year, so I can’t exactly tell him what to do with his own money.

He showed the ATV off to me, my wife, and his little sister. It looked all right at first glance, but I told him I wanted to take a closer look at its guts. He grinned and said, “No problem, dad. I already have some Yamalube in there to keep it greased.”

Golf Carts

About ten miles away from our lake house is a country club. It has a pretty decent back nine. A friend of mine, who happens to be a member, invited me to an early tee time a few days ago.

We had a blast shooting the breeze while we played a leisurely game. We even got to ride around in golf carts. As we were turning in our golf carts, I noticed one of the attendants struggling to get one of the carts going. I offered to take a look at the motor for him. All it needed was a little Yamaha oil and a bit of fuel to get going again.

Minnesota Boating

According to Boating Life magazine, there is one lake for every 424 Minnesotans. There is also one boat registered for every six Minnesotans, which is a statistic no other state can most. Most access to water is free with ramps open 24 hours a day (oh how I wish that were true where I live!).

The state government is also working to make Lake Superior shore more accessible. Makes sense for a state that’s mission statement reads: “It is the policy of this state, which is blessed with an abundance of water, to promote its full use and enjoyment by all of the people.” With a welcoming statement like that, how can you not want to grab your boat trailer and some OptiMax oil and set out for Minnesota?

Yamaha Separating Filter

Every Yamaha motor needs a 10-micron fuel and water separating filter. Because the filter is so essential, it needs to be checked for signs of wear and tear every three to six months. This month formula corresponds to approximately 50 to 100 hours of outboard use.

The filter is not only important during the summer months; it is also an important piece of the winterization process. Without a functioning separating filter the outboard can suffer damage when not in use. Next time you replace your Yamaha 2M oil, remember to take a peek at the separating filter, too.

Haulover Inlet to Government Cut

I nearly started drooling on my keyboard when I read the description for the ocean off Haulover Inlet to Government Cut. Apparently, it’s one of Miami’s best kept fishing secrets. Not just fish, but live shrimp can be caught drifting just 100 yards from the beach.

Along the coast hundreds of tarpon ranging 20 to 180 pounds are caught every winter. I’ll be missing out on the tarpon, but there should be plenty of action with jacks, bluefish, and Spanish mackerel. I just hope my son appreciates this trip as much as I do. Maybe I’ll talk to him about it while we’re dipping into our stock of Mercury oil 55 gallon drum.
