Being Over-Prepared

I went camping with some of my friends recently. It turned out nobody but me had remembered to bring any food on our camping trip. Luckily for all of my friends, I have a tendency to be over-prepared and I brought a ton of food along, enough for us to pretty much get by for the whole trip.

I’ve always been the kind of guy who over-prepares a little bit, for any given situation. For instance, when I bought my boat, I purchased a bunch of bulk outboard motor oil so that I’d be extra prepared at all times. My friends make fun of me for it, but sometimes my over-preparedness works out for the best!

Solving Tough Times with a Boat Trip

I’ve been having a bit of a rough month. My ex-wife and I just went through a messy divorce and the economy has resulted in me having to receive a pay cut at work, which isn’t great now that alimony is in the mix. It’s all had me a bit down in the dumps, even though I’m a fairly optimistic person generally.

Recently, I really had the straw that broke the camel’s back. My best friend got a new job in Ohio, and even though I’m happy for him, it’s no fun knowing that my friend’s moving away at a time like this. It made me feel like busting out the bulk Mercury Optimax oil I purchased a while back, fixing up my boat, and hitting the open water.

Working for the Weekend

I really think that it’s accurate to say that I’m always ‘working for the weekend.’ I’ve got a pretty stressful job that can really take its toll on my sanity sometimes so I get really excited about every weekend. I get even more excited now that I’ve purchased a boat that I’m able to take out on the water.

After I got off work this most recent Friday, I only made a couple of stops. I stopped off for some coffee at Starbucks. Then, I picked up a bottle of Evinrude XD 100 oil for my boat on my way home. Once I got home, I hitched my boat to my truck and got ready for a great weekend.

Boating in Kansas

When you think Kansas, you’re probably not thinking of beaches or boating at all. But you’d be surprised that there actually are a few places for Kansans and people visiting Kansas can go to swim, hang out on the beach, and even roam around in a boat. The bigger ones are in the Kansas City area, bordering Missouri, such as Blue Springs Lake and Longview Lake.

But there are also places actually within the borders of Kansas like Shawnee Mission Park Beach and Kill Creek Park Beach. Regardless of where you choose, it’s nice to know that there are places even in the center of the United States where people can still find ways to boat. Just don’t forget to load up on Evinrude oil before you hit the lakes.

Saving Money by Buying Bulk

I went a little bit over budget when it came to purchasing my new boat. What with buying the boat and everything that you have to get that goes along with it, as well as renting out a storage unit, I was getting a bit strapped for cash. I had to figure out some ways to purchase certain things for my boat at cheaper prices.

I purchased some bulk motor oil because it saved me a bundle to buy a lot of it at once and I’ve got a decent storage unit to keep it in with my boat so that outside factors don’t affect its performance. If you leave motor oil out in the open, it can become contaminated by dirt or sludge or it can be affected by temperature changes.

What Else to Buy with Your Boat

When purchasing a boat, there are often other expenditures that should be looked at that some people might forget about when looking at their budgets for a boat. For instance, you need to make sure that you have the proper safety equipment for your boat; you should have life jackets. You should also make sure to have a garbage can so that you don’t litter in the water.

Other things that should be taken into consideration are what maintenance supplies you’re going to pick up for your boat. It’s important to choose the right boat motor oil so that your boat will be running perfectly. You should also be sure to pick up cleaning supplies to keep off rust.

Comparing Boats

I’ve always had issues with my boat ever since I bought it used. I’d never really been able to figure out what was the best measure to make sure it was working better. I looked to my friend who also bought a used boat around the same time as I did and hadn’t had any problems with his boat whatsoever.

I asked him, what’s his secret? How does he get his boat to run so smoothly? He told me that he always used Yamalube 2-M oil on his boat and said he didn’t have any special secret other than that. I decided to switch to it with my boat and it’s been running great ever since!

The Best of the Best

I’ve always been really paranoid about keeping all of my electronics in tip-top condition. I’m always using screen protectors on smartphones and constantly updating my computer. I do the same sort of thing with vehicles as well. I probably get maintenance done on my car about twice as much as anyone else I know.

It’s also important to me to use only the best maintenance materials as well. I bought a boat recently and I treat it just as well as I treat my other possessions. For example, I only use the best outboard motor oil for my boat; it’s very important so that its engine is always running smoothly.

Fuel Additives for Deposits

Sometimes it’s good to ensure that you use additional formulas on top of the oil and gasoline you use in your boat. There’s a lot going on in a boat’s engine and because of this, boats require the utmost maintenance. One choice that a lot of boat owners make is to use a fuel additive.

A particularly popular fuel additive is the Yamalube Ringfree Plus fuel additive. It’s used to remove deposits from carburetors, combustion chamber, fuel injectors, and intake ports. These deposits, which can build up from using low quality gasoline or for other reasons, can cause serious damage to the engine, spark plugs, pistons, and other parts of the boat, so it’s important to make sure the deposits are eliminated.

Fishing in Australia

A friend of mine up and moved to Australia on a whim recently. One of the things he likes to do most out there is go fishing. Recently, I finally saved up enough money to go out and visit him during my vacation time. He decided that for one of the days that I was there, we’d go fishing because as he stated, Australian fishing is the best.

He took me out to a place called Fitzroy River and we fished for threadfins and barramundi, which was bizarre to me because I’m only really used to fishing for salmon and steelhead back in the States. We had a great time and when I returned home, I shipped him a few bottles of Yamalube oil for his boat as thanks.

Excessive or Prepared?

My dad can be a little excessive sometimes, although he claims that he’s just trying to always stay prepared. And for the most part, he is prepared for any occasion, but that doesn’t negate the fact that he’s also pretty excessive. Take his new boat for instance: he sold his old car and picked up a new car on a whim just so he’d be able to properly tow the boat.

When it came to finding things to maintain his boat, he was bit excessive too. For instance, there were a lot of things that he bought in bulk. He picked up an oil drum filled with Yamalube 2W oil so that he wouldn’t have to worry about purchasing it by the bottle.

The Captain

My best friend took us out on his new boat recently. He’s kind of a ridiculous guy, so even though it was a smaller boat, he was acting like he was some big boat captain; he even bought a silly outfit to wear and refused to answer any of us unless we referred to him as Captain. Regardless of all that, we were having a really good time; I like his new boat a lot.

I think that we’re planning on making a few more trips out before winter hits too hard. I was so amused by our previous trip that I decided to trade my friend a couple of bottles of 2 stroke oil in order to be the so-called ‘captain’ of the boat for a day. He gave me his captain’s hat and everything!
