Mercury Outboard Oil Reminds Me of Summer

Domo-Online Pic 4 1292013I can’t tell you how much I loathe winter. I’m a person who used to live in Florida, so spending time in Washington and dealing with genuinely cold winters has been pretty unpleasant for me. Not only do I hate the cold, but I really don’t like how many of my favorite activities have to be put on hold while I wait for the weather to warm up again.

In particular, the activity that I miss the most is being able to take my boat out on the water. There are a lot of really nice lakes out here, but I can’t do anything about it until summer rolls back around. I’m always ready for summer, however. I keep plenty of Mercury outboard oil stored in my garage while I wait for this wretched season to be over with.

Learning about Boats and Evinrude Johnson 2 Stroke Outboard Oil

Domo-Online Pic 1 1292013When you get a boat for the first time, it’s easy to get a little overwhelmed with all of the information that you need to know. Some people purchase a boat without considering how much they should know about boating beforehand. You should know all of the laws about boating and fishing in your area, obviously, before you take a boat somewhere you’re not supposed to.

Additionally, you should learn a bit about your boat’s maintenance and the type of oil it takes. Some research should be done to determine what the best brand of oil is for your particular engine. I exclusively use Evinrude Johnson 2 stroke outboard oil, but I had to make sure to put the time in to figure this out so that I could ensure that my boat was running the best it possibly could.

Trying to Find WaveRunner Oil

WaveRunner oilAfter a few years of going to our lake house every summer that we all shared payments on, I talked to my sisters about getting a WaveRunner. It never seemed like a worthy investment of our money but now that we were hanging out on a lake every year and we had already paid off the other expenses of the house, it seemed like a good time to buy one.
We decided to get two and all chip in equally. Between four of us, it was really affordable. To break in the new water vehicles, we all took a week vacation with each other (first time since we bought the house!). Using the vehicles was pretty easy but we felt pretty dumb when we didn’t know where to get WaveRunner oil and had to call my husband (it was the store two blocks away; go figure).  Now we buy it online and have it shipped to the lake house.  It’s much easier that way!

Lost without Yamaha Outboard Oil

domo online blog 5 12-16-13My uncle’s boat always seemed to break down at the most inconvenient times. We would be out on an island in the middle of the San Juan Islands and suddenly it would sputter and die. In a car, breaking down can be annoying, but it is usually easy to call a tow truck and get help. This is not the case with a boat. When a boat breaks down, it can be dangerous.

Most of the time, my uncle didn’t have to worry, because my Grandpa’s boat was able to tow him. My grandpa also kept boating essentials, such as Yamaha outboard oil, on his boat, so that my uncle would have these items if he needed them. My uncle didn’t like to take his boat out by himself, because he felt as if he would be lost without my grandpa’s help.

What is Ringfree Plus?

YLB-RNGFR-PL-12I have to be honest; I’m one of those boat owners who has no idea what I’m talking about. My husband does all the shopping and decision making when it comes to our outboard motor because frankly, none of the different lingo or descriptions sound like different products to me. All I know is that there are oils that work with my motor, and some that don’t.

When my husband decided we should start buying Ringfree plus, I made the mistake of asking what the difference was. He told me for over 20 minutes. All I gather is that it’s one of the best Ethanol fuel options in a highly concentrated formula, and we only need one ounce of it for 10 gallons of gasoline. It also protects our fuel system. I’ll let him be the one to actually use it, though.

Live Greener with Yamalube 2W Oil

domo-online blog 5 12-30-13Over my lifetime, there has been more emphasis on treating the environment the right way. With the discover of global warming and the impact that humans are having on the world that we live in, governments have tried to find new ways for people to consume less and limit their impact. In my family, this meant a lot of changes initially.

My mother decided that we would use glass milk containers rather than plastic, because these could be recycled more easily. In general, we began recycling everything more and trying to drive less. When my dad took his Jet Ski out on the water, he would use Yamalube 2W oil rather than anything else, because it produced less smoke and less water pollution.

Which Yamalube Oil Do I Buy?

image (1)My father made a pretty big mistake one day. We needed oil for the Waverunner we just bought for our lake house, and he sent me and my mother to the store. While we wrote down exactly what he wanted, it sounded like jibberish to us. All we knew was the name of the brand and that there was a letter and a number next to it, and it was different than the other combinations.

When we got to the store, they were out of the exact thing he wrote down. We went up to one of the workers and told him we needed Yamalube something-or-another oil. We must have written it down wrong because he thought we were nuts. After walking around for 30 minutes, we swallowed our pride and called him. He told us again and it turned out we were in front of it.

Fight Carbon Build Up with Yamalube 2M

image10When it comes to buying oil, some customers get pretty confused. While there is always a manufacturer’s recommendation, some people want to find the best price tag for the highest quality possible rather than relying on what the packaging recommends. The first thing you need to check on oil is whether it’s been approved by the industry or not.
You can easily find some great deals online that will give you the top quality for what you’re paying. Rather than skipping on the recommended Yamalube 2M, you should stick with what the manufacturer suggests. The name brand ensures protection against robbing ring stick and carbon build up, which will extend the life of your engine and save you a lot down the road.

First Time Out with Snowmobile Oil

article-2206817-151F88ED000005DC-444_634x404When I started dating my boyfriend, he was perplexed that I had never tried out any sort of winter time sports. I’m originally from the east coast, where snowboarding is definitely a thing, but not nearly as required as the northwest. I spent my winters inside my Jersey home, never trying to venture into the snow covered wilderness.

I was a bit nervous to try out snowboarding, so we started out with snowmobiles (him driving, of course). I helped him put in the snowmobile oil and get the vehicle ready to go. It was actually quite a bit of fun, so I have agreed to try out skiing next week. He’s convinced I’ll be on the big slopes by the end of the weekend; I think I’ll stick with the other snow bunnies.

Outboard Engine Always Made My Vacation with Yamalube 2M Oil

LaborDayLakes_KidsWhen the family would take our usual trip to the lake house, our parents always had an idea of what it would be like: the whole family around a fire pit, sharing stories and hanging out. The reality was my sister and I screaming over who got the better room and bickering over what we wanted for breakfast (who says no to pancakes?).

Lucky for me, my sister’s idea of a vacation was working on her tan out on the dock. This meant I got to use our boat as much as I wanted. My father showed me how to properly add the Yamalube 2m oil and maintain the engine. I would take the boat out for hours every day, making sure to come back in time for the fire pit at night.

Fighting Outboard Motor Build Up with Bulk Mercury Optimax Oil

bulk mercury optimax oilWithin the first year of owning our outboard motor, it started to slow down a bit. It wasn’t anything major, and it was still functioning well, but I couldn’t help but feel like we were losing a lot more performance in the first year than was typical. When I told my husband my thought, he started to notice that small shift, too, and said it was too early on for this.
His best friend from his childhood is a mechanic, which has saved us a lot of repair money for our vehicles over the years. He looked at the engine and said we had a bit of a carbon build-up and should have been buying bulk mercury Optimax oil this whole time. Luckily we caught it early on and our engine has been running much better ever since.

What 2 Cycle Oil is Made of

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWith all the different types of oil on the market, they often start to all sound the same. Many owners simply follow the guidelines the manufacturer set up, and don’t think too far beyond it. However, there are some key differences between types of oil. For one thing, some are meant for two-stroke engines while others are optimal for four-stroke use.

The oil used in crankcase compression two-stroke engines, 2 cycle oil, is much different than what owners would use in a four-cycle engine. The oil-base stock is either petroleum, vegetable, semi-synthetic or synthetic oil and is mixed with petrol/gasoline at a ratio ranging from 16:1 to 100:1, unlike a four cycle which doesn’t need fuel added to the oil.
