Friendly Arguments

My best friend and I tend to argue about things a lot; typically these are very trivial things like whether or not Harvey Keitel was in Pulp Fiction or what year the last Beatles album was released. Luckily, these days, we’re always able to pull out our smartphones and prove to each other who’s right and who’s wrong.

Recently, we’ve started making minor bets over these little arguments that we have; we’ll buy each other something small or hand over a few bucks. In our most recent argument, I bet him that squids had eight tentacles. I wound up buying him a bottle of Mercury Optimax oil as his winnings, because after all, I had lost the bet (squids have ten tentacles).

Oil Reserve

I like to keep a reserve of oil in my garage at all times, just in case I need it. I do this for my car and for my boat and I would do it for any vehicle I might ever drive because I think it’s vital and can save you from any potential annoyances. However, I didn’t always have this foresight; I had to learn from my mistakes.

A while back, I was on my way back from work, excited for a big boating trip that I was planning on taking that weekend. When I got home, I soon realized I’d forgotten to pick up the Yamaha 2S oil that I needed for some last-minute working on my boat. By the time I realized I needed it, all the stores that might carry it were closed. It would have been nice to have had a supply ready to go!

The Mall

I don’t get a chance to go to the mall as often as I’d like to; I honestly like shopping, even though I know a lot of guys aren’t into it. I find it relaxing to go to the mall and just kind of walk around for hours and check things out. I’ll mess around with electronics or I’ll go into a Brookstone or something and take a look at all of the fun massage chairs and take a look at things I might want for my home.

The most recent time I went to the mall was particularly because I needed some new nice clothes after some moths got to one of my favorite suits. I did some clothes shopping for a while and then I went to a place that sold DVDs and CDs. Afterwards, I went online to purchase a couple of bottles of Mercury oil for my boat. I may love the mall, but there’s no good boating goods store at the mall near me!

No More Tequila

I made the mistake of drinking tequila for my birthday, even though I’d totally sworn off tequila in the past. I soon remembered why I had sworn off tequila; I love the taste of it mixed with pretty much anything and I always wind up drinking too much of it whenever tequila comes into the equation, which does not wind up working out as a particularly pretty picture for me.

On my birthday, I of course wound up having people buy drinks for me, which was why I ended up having tequila in the first place. Not surprisingly, I eventually got very sick and I don’t remember very much from the night, though I’m told I made a number of bad decisions and the hangover I had afterwards was perhaps the most horrendous hangover I’ve ever had. I’d rather drink a bottle of Mercury oil than ever have tequila again.

From Boats to Spacecraft

I wonder if someday we’ll be able to have personal spacecraft the way that we have personal boats. I’m sure that centuries ago, nobody thought that people would have personal motorized boats like the ones that are so commonplace now, even if perhaps people back then had their own sailboats or canoes or whatever. I’m not saying this is something that will happen in my lifetime, but I’m talking centuries from now. Will people go out and buy their own spaceships?

What I wonder is if the same companies that make boats will transition over to making spacecraft someday, or if it will be car companies, or perhaps new companies entirely. And I wonder if the companies that make the maintenance supplies for boats and whatnot will be the same ones making the oil and other things for your spaceship. That’d give Mercury oil a whole other meaning.

Clearing Your Mind

I had kind of a bad day the other day. I’ve been trying to switch career paths and I just haven’t been making any headway. I had a couple of interviews the other day that both went really obviously poorly and it pretty much put me down in the dumps. It didn’t help that my birthday was coming up and I had recently found out that most of my friends weren’t going to be able to make it out for various reasons.

I was headed home from the interviews feeling pretty bad about everything. I decided to stop off at a convenience store for some comfort food. I also picked up a bottle of Yamalube 2M for my boat on my way back because I thought that a boating trip might calm my nerves a little bit. I was right! All I really needed to freshen my mind was some time alone out on my boat. I’ve got another interview coming up soon and I think I’m going to do a lot better.

An Irrational Fear of Cruise Ships

I have an irrational fear of cruise ships that stems from the knowledge I have about the Titanic. I’ve obviously seen the movie Titanic, as well as a number of documentaries about the ship, and for some reason, they’ve instilled this really bizarre deep-seated fear of cruise ships. I was invited out to go on a cruise with some family members not too long ago and I had to vehemently refuse because even the thought of being on a cruise ship made me woozy.

Oddly enough, it’s only cruise ships that freak me out. Other types of watercraft don’t terrify me at all. I’m actually a huge fan of boating. Just the other day, I went out and picked up some Mercury Premium Plus oil for my own boat. However, you’ll never see me on a giant cruise ship-sized watercraft; I think part of what really terrifies me is the sheer size of the boat itself. I wouldn’t be able to deal with it.

A Mechanic’s Opinion

I’m a mechanic; I work a lot with cars, but my specialty is actually with working on boats, which allows me to have a niche market of working on my customers’ cars and boats, letting them bring both vehicles to the same place with the mechanics they already know and trust.

Sometimes people have asked me which brands of oil they should be purchasing for their boats. Personally, I’ve always stuck with Mercury oil for the engines of boats that I work on, but I know other people that use different brands of oil and have had similar success rates. I intend to keep using Mercury oil when I’m at work, however

Boat Maintenance is Important

I think that maintaining your boat is really important. I’ve got a friend who bought a boat not too long ago, but he hasn’t been great at keeping up with the maintenance. Because of this, he’s been having some problems with his boat. He also bought it used, but I’ve known other people who bought used boats and maintained it well and never had any problems.

Personally, I’ve always used Evinrude outboard oil and I’ve never had any problems with my boat whatsoever, and I’ve been using my boat for years. I think that with the proper maintenance, you’re likely to avoid any major boat issues. That being said, I also purchased a new boat rather than a used one, so that I would know for sure there’d be no pre-existing issues with it.

Being Over-Prepared

I went camping with some of my friends recently. It turned out nobody but me had remembered to bring any food on our camping trip. Luckily for all of my friends, I have a tendency to be over-prepared and I brought a ton of food along, enough for us to pretty much get by for the whole trip.

I’ve always been the kind of guy who over-prepares a little bit, for any given situation. For instance, when I bought my boat, I purchased a bunch of bulk outboard motor oil so that I’d be extra prepared at all times. My friends make fun of me for it, but sometimes my over-preparedness works out for the best!

Saving Money by Buying Bulk

I went a little bit over budget when it came to purchasing my new boat. What with buying the boat and everything that you have to get that goes along with it, as well as renting out a storage unit, I was getting a bit strapped for cash. I had to figure out some ways to purchase certain things for my boat at cheaper prices.

I purchased some bulk motor oil because it saved me a bundle to buy a lot of it at once and I’ve got a decent storage unit to keep it in with my boat so that outside factors don’t affect its performance. If you leave motor oil out in the open, it can become contaminated by dirt or sludge or it can be affected by temperature changes.

What Else to Buy with Your Boat

When purchasing a boat, there are often other expenditures that should be looked at that some people might forget about when looking at their budgets for a boat. For instance, you need to make sure that you have the proper safety equipment for your boat; you should have life jackets. You should also make sure to have a garbage can so that you don’t litter in the water.

Other things that should be taken into consideration are what maintenance supplies you’re going to pick up for your boat. It’s important to choose the right boat motor oil so that your boat will be running perfectly. You should also be sure to pick up cleaning supplies to keep off rust.
