How To Choose The Best Outboard Motor Oil

The right engine oil is critical to overall performance if you have an outboard motor. However, choosing the best outboard motor oil can be challenging for many boaters. A motor in a boat is a complex and fragile machine that should not be subject to any unnecessary stress. Different boaters will have different opinions about maintaining their outboard motors, but some things are generally agreed upon. The lubricants that come with the boat or cylinders often include anti-foaming agents. These prevent oil from being foamed inside the piston, strangling it and causing premature wear. Because of this, they are choosing the best outboard motor oil for your boat can be a challenge. Buying the wrong oil can cost you time, money, and engine damage. Since outboard motors are susceptible to their engine’s service life, you do not want to skimp when servicing your engine.

When choosing the best outboard motor oil for your boat, consider two things. The first is the engine type. Different engines require different types of fat; some engines run on gasoline or diesel fuel, while others run on electric power. The machine you have will determine what fuel it uses and, therefore, which type of oil is appropriate for it. The other one is the price. While the price may not be the most crucial factor to consider when buying an item like this, it is still worth considering since cost can vary greatly. There are several different kinds of outboard motor oils available on the market today. While they all work in similar ways to keep your engine running smoothly, each type has its advantages and disadvantages and unique features that make it stand out from others in its category.

Evinrude Johnson, Mercury Optimax, and Yamaha are the best outboard motor oil manufacturers. These three companies have received more positive feedback than any other brand. They all produce a variety of different grades of oil for various applications, so make sure you read the label before purchasing and using any oil in your outboard engine. Always change the oil in your boat with new oil, and never re-use old oil from previous changes. If you want to save some money, use synthetic oil instead of regular mineral-based oils. Synthetic oils cost more but last longer and provide better protection against corrosion within your engine. If you are not sure how often you should change your outboard motor’s oil filter, check with your manufacturer or call them directly because they will have specific recommendations based on their engine design specifications.

What is Two Cycle Outboard Oil and Why is it Used?

Two-cycle engines, often known as two-stroke engines, provide a number of advantages. Their simple design gives an excellent power-to-weight ratio, making them perfect for scooters, snowmobiles, and other outboard engines. They are also unusual in that the engine oil is added to the gas tank. You may believe this makes your oil selection less important. The truth is that the best two-cycle outboard oil available is required to prevent dangerous deposits and reduce exhaust smoke. Two-stroke engine oils are specially designed motor oils for use in two-cycle or two-stroke engines to cater to the differences between a two-cycle and four-cycle engine. It is vital to use the right kind of two-cycle oil when utilizing a two-cycle outboard oil. Mechanical equipment uses both two-cycle and four-cycle engines, but the type of equipment specifies which engine to use. On the other hand, four-cycle engines are usually used in larger engines such as automobiles, boats, motorcycles, and bigger outboard engines. The two-cycle engines are commonly used in smaller engine applications such as lawn mowers and scooters.

The two-cycle engines do not have valves due to the engine physics of how they operate. Every revolution of a two-cycle engine generates power. After combining with air, fuel and oil are compressed and pushed toward the ignition plug. The plug ignites and produces a spark, forcing the piston to fall and the compression cycle to finish. A reed valve opens as the compression occurs, eliminating the fuel/oil/air mixture and restarting the cycle. You need to be very careful while choosing a two-cycle outboard oil for your engine because it might affect your engine’s performance.

It is crucial to use the right lubricant for your engine, just like it’s important to use the right engine oil. Never use four-stroke engine oil in a two-stroke engine, and never use two-cycle outboard oil in a four-stroke engine. Two-stroke motor oils do not last as long as four-stroke engine oils since they are lighter, lower in ash, and best suited for use in two-stroke engines. To determine proper lubrication for your engine, always reference your owner’s manual. Because two-stroke engines are often smaller, lighter, and simpler than four-stroke engines, they provide a higher power-to-weight ratio and are commonly used in smaller equipment applications such as lawnmowers and other garden equipment, as well as small engine vehicles like scooters, jet skis, and small outboard engines. Because of decreased friction and superior lubricity, two-stroke engines have better heat management than four-stroke engines. Motorcycles powered by two-stroke motors are very popular.

Fishing Season Means Buying 2 Stroke Oil

fishing poleWith the weather so nice, it is hard to imagine not being able to be out on a nearby lake fishing away. I love to go out and go fishing on a regular basis and this weather makes everything perfect. There is nowhere that I would rather be on a sunny day than out in the middle of the lake with my line in the water just fishing away.

Of course, this time of the year also means actually having to make sure that I am able to take great care of my motor since I haven’t run the motor for quite a while at this point. I have to get the motor started out gently making sure that it has new oil and gasoline to run with. I buy brand new 2 stroke oil at this time every year just to make sure my motor really has the best.

I start out by running the motor in my yard just to make sure that everything is working properly. When I have determined that everything is going well, I will take the boat out on the lake for my first run around the lake without my fishing gear. Only when I’m confident that everything is working well do I start taking the boat out for fishing trips.

My New Backup Motor Runs with 2 Stroke Oil

domo-online blog 1 3-07-16After my boat broke down, leaving me stranded in the middle of the bay in need of rescue, I was a bit leery about going out in my boat by myself again. I knew that it was unlikely for the motor to break down again after its repair, but I didn’t feel like taking chances. I decided that I needed to get a second engine that I could use for backup if the main one broke down again.

I looked at a lot of different outboard motors that I would be able to run as a backup engine on the back of my boat. I eventually decided on a small two stroke motor that would get me back to shore even though it wasn’t capable of going too fast. The new motor runs on 2 stroke oil so I have to make sure that I buy this in addition to the oil that I purchase for the larger motor.

A Constant Supply of 2 Stroke Oil Keeps My Outboard Motor Puttering

domo online blog 1 1-11-16I used to be able to go out on the local lake and fish after rowing across the water to where I wanted to sit. It was very peaceful plying a paddle through the water on the quiet lake when I was young and still able to row well. Now that I have gotten older and the lake has gotten louder, I have an outboard motor that I use on my boat.

Although it is far less peaceful using this type of motor, I am certainly able to get to different parts of the lake a whole lot faster. I like the idea of using the motor to jet around the lake so that I can get where I want to fish. The main difference is that a motor requires 2 stroke oil and gasoline to replace the man power that is missing.

Quality 2 Stroke Oil is What Works Perfectly in My Motor

domo-online blog 1 11-16-15When I bought a small boat to take out on the lake by my house, I first thought that I would just be able to take the boat out and row around the lake. I was able to get around the lake well with just rowing, but I found that this was incredibly difficult for me to do. It took a lot of my fishing time just rowing to places where the fish were most likely to be.

I enjoyed going fishing this way, but I knew that it was far too difficult for me to do on a regular basis and it really cut into my fishing time. I ended up buying a new outboard motor for the boat along with some 2 stroke oil that it would need to run it as well. I am very happy to be able to motor around the lake instead of rowing.

Paying Attention to My Stock of 2 Stroke Oil

Domo-Online 9-21-2015 Pic 1Purchasing a boat was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Going out on my boat is something that I enjoy quite a bit, as I love spending a weekend fishing with my friends from time to time. It can be a great deal of fun going out and trying to find enough fish to make a meal out of when they’re brought home.

Of course, in order to go boating as frequently as I like, I have to be sure that I’m regularly paying attention to my stock of 2 stroke oil. If I were to run out of that, I wouldn’t be able to perform the required maintenance on my boat. That would mean that it wasn’t running to the best of its abilities.
